Hedda Hopper Herbert Blache











Hopper Hedda (1890-1966)

Hedda Hopper, de son vrai nom Elda Furry, naît le 2 mai 1885 à Hollidaysburg, en Pennsylvanie.

Son père était boucher. En 1913, elle rencontre DeWolff Hopper Sr et partent vivrent à Hollywood. Dès lors elle commence une carrière d'actrice.

Le 8 mai 1913, elle se marie avec DeWolff Hopper Sr (1858-1935) et divorcèrent en 1922. Ils eurent un enfant.

Elle décroche un contrat à la Triangle Company et devient, comme Theda Bara avant elle, une “vamp”. Après son divorce, elle tourne une 12aine de films. En 1936, elle anime un programme radiophonique pendant 2 ans.

Grande bosseuse : elle a tournée dans 136 films de 1916 à 1942 !! De tous, on retient “Don Juan” (1926) mais n'a pas le 1er rôle. Néanmoins, elle joue avec Lionel Barrymore, Myrna Loy et Mary Astor. En 1932, Buster Keaton lui demande de jouer dans son film “Speak Easly” avec la jeune nouvelle : Thelma Todd.

On se rappelle aussi “Désirs Secrets” (1935) de George Cukor aux côtés de Katharine Hepburn et Fred MacMurray, “La Fille De Dracula” (1936), “What A Life” (1939) et ”La Baronne De Minuit” (1939) avec Claudette Colbert, John Barrymore et Mary Astor.

Bien qu'elle n'obtienne pas des 1er rôles elle joue dans des films à grandes productions. Il vaut de petits rôles dans de grands films que de grands rôles dans des films sans intérêts.

En 1942, elle se retire. Elle ne réapparaîtra qu'occasionnellement en 1953, 1957 et 1966 dans des séries TV.



Aussi, on peut la voir en coup de vent dans le film “Boulevard Du Crepuscule” (1950) de Billy Wilder avec William Holden, Gloria Swanson et Erich Von Stroheim. On la voit toute à la fin comme journaliste au téléphone où elle demande au policier de raccroché son combiné parce qu'elle est en ligne. Elle reçut 5 000 dollars tout de même pour seulement quelques phrases.

Aussi, une de ses cachoteries : elle a changée sa dâte d'anniversaire au 2 mai 1890 pour parraître plus jeune.

Hedda est décédée le 1er février 1966 d'une double pneumonie à Hollywood, en Californie.
